The situation is, the client wants to add a handling fee to all orders and have it combined with the shipping fee. 

I've selected the "Combine Shipping and Handling" option which works ok, but with two problems:
  1. The handling charge appears on the Cart page before you calculate shipping - so the customer sees a label "Shipping and Handling" and a price $2 and thinks "hooray, $2 shipping" and goes on to add more to the cart. Of course when they then calculate shipping this figure its updated to show the correct amount but you can see the issue.
  2. In the Shipping Calculation form it shows the shipping amount, without the handling. So for example, they calculate shipping and it comes up as $6.95 in the shipping calculation area. But then "Shipping and Handling" shows $8.95.
What can we do to have the handling fee added to the shipping fee? 

We are using the Australia Post shipping calculator.

Hi Bevan,

Could you please provide a screen shot of your "shipping and handling" settings screen so I can see what ship methods your using. This will help me to further troubleshoot the issue.

 The Smith Cart is designed to both have the handling fee appear before the shipping calculation and to not include the handling fee in the shipping calculator . I've checked the option "Combine Shipping and Handling". This option should "Combine Shipping and Handling". Instead, it shows the Handling for a while, and then shows the shipping and then combines the two.

I don't believe I should have to pay extra for a function that would appear to exist but that doesn't work correctly.

I will double check with programming but you may have come across a limitation on something that wasn't programmed into the cart yet. Meaning that the "Combine Shipping and Handling" option wasn't designed to hide the Handling amount before the shipping is calculated when using a Shipping Calculator or add the Handling to the Shipping amount shown in the Shipping Method dropdown on the Cart page.

If it shows the Handling price and the Shipping price separately then it seems fairly clear that the function "Combine Shipping and Handling" is not working correctly.

You know my opinion on getting a quote for enhancing this function, I don't see why I should have to pay extra to fix what is clearly a bug in the software.

I just want this function to work as it is documented. If I tick the box "Combine Shipping and Handling" it should not show the prices separately but should COMBINE them so the customer just sees one combined Shipping and Handling fee.

The behavior you are requesting is not an issue with the module, it is a feature which is not currently supported.

The Cart Manual specifically states the following on Pg.46 in the description of the "Combine Shipping and Handling" feature:

"Combining shipping and handling as a single line item allows you to set a fixed price for shipping by choosing free shipping above and entering a handling charge."

There are many other Shipping Methods which support the Combine Shipping and Handling option however the Shipping Calculator is not one of them.

The available Shipping Methods you can use with the Combine Shipping and Handling feature are the following:
  • Zone Shipping By Quantity
  • Zone Shipping By Weight
  • Shipping By Order Amount
  • Shipping By Weight
  • Product Level Shipping Costs
  • Free Shipping
