So I'm running into a problem where some of our customers are being charged for shipping... and some of them are not. We have free shipping set up for orders over $60, but these orders getting free shipping are not even close to $60.

We are using Zone & Weight shipping, and although I think it is set up properlly... this may be where my problem lies. Also, when I go to checkout it gives me two different shipping options/prices to choose from, even though I only have 1 custom ship method which I'm using.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Or any advice on an easier solution. I don't want to do UPS shipping calculator, because in many cases it costs our customers much more to ship through UPS.

When looking at the "Manage Orders" tab, I discovered that the orders which are getting Free Shipping correctly, with totals over $60 - under ship method it says "Free".

The orders which are getting free shipping and shouldn't be, the ship method is showing up as "Free Shipping".

Odd...

Okay - I figured out what the issue was. I had set up a 15% discount coupon for new customers to the store. However, the shipping amount at the bottom of the coupon was set to 0.

I feel that although I was able to figure this out, it wasn't very clear that you need to put -1 if you don't want to override shipping amounts. It would be helpful if this was highlighted or made more clear.

On the manage coupon screen the "shipping amount" field has inline help if you click the question mark next to the field and also the help text "Enter -1 for no coupon shipping amount" is written directly below the field. Is the issue that the help text is not visible enough or that the help text not clear?  If its not clear what do you think changing the help text to one of the following:

  • Enter -1 to charge normal shipping on orders
  • Enter -1 to not override shipping charges on orders

Let me know your thoughts,

I think it would be more clear if it charged normal shipping by default, and then gave you the option to offer free shipping on the coupon with a checkbox.

If that is not possible, then I would just make the help text bold or red, so that it is not overlooked so easily.
