Going through and doing some account creation testing, when a customer wishes to create an account with a username that already exists, I don't see a message popup saying that that username is already taken. When hitting next on the registration screen, it just flashes and removes the username and password informatin, not really information the user that that username is taken.

Is there a setting somewhere ot change this, and is this something on the DNN side or in Smith Cart?

Depending on how you have the buynow module settings configured there are three different possible screens that you can enter a user name and password. Which screen are you referring to?

It's the registration screen, the screen after you are presented with the option to either register or login (existing customer), and you choose register

Is there an option to turn on an alert somewhere letting people know that that username is already taken?

In your buy now settings with options do you have selected under "Sign In and Registration Page Setup"??
