I was wondering if I could set up different shipping prices for a product based on location? for example $4.95 in the U.S. , $8.50 for Canada, and $13.95 for all other international.

Currently in the cart there is no way to enter 3 fixed locale specific ship costs as you outlined. The shipping options that are supported today that are locale/country specific are the real time shipping calculator, shipping by zip/country and the domestic/international handling technique described below.

In the next release cart version 3.96 we are adding shipping by zone that will support what you described. The new shipping by zone feature supports the following:

  • Shipping zones (country and/or state/locale).
  • Fixed shipping costs by zone.
  • Shipping by order quantity and by zone.
  • Shipping by weight and by zone.

In the interim until shipping by zone is released you can configure shipping as follows:

1. Check free shipping
2. Enter a handling charge to both domestic and international
3. Check combine shipping and handling

When you configure shipping this way the cart will compute a fixed shipping cost (the cost entered for handling) for both domestic and international orders.

I think I found a bug with the zone shipping. I'm adding Canada as a zone but the states drop down box stays there. It lets me add it but then it bombs when I try to edit it. I think states drop down should go away or at least change to a province drop down.

Really? It worked for me... when I selected "Canada", I got a list of provinces.

I deleted all my zones and started from scratch. I've got zone for USA and for Canada now. What's the best way to create a zone for the rest of the countries?

When I try to edit one of the zones I get the following error...

A critical error has occurred.
The stored procedure 'dbo.Smith_GetZone' doesn't exist.

I had to delete it and re-add it.

In the 3.96 sql dataprovider file the stored proc "Smith_GetZone" was incorrectly named "Smith_Smith_GetZone". If you rename it and remove the additional Smith_ it should work for you. We have fixed the sql dataprovider install script and will add to the cart downloads page. Thanks for reporting it!
