Hello,

I'm considering SC for my client and had a couple of functionality questions I wanted to confirm/check.

1. Besides "regular" products, my client sells testing and repair services. I need to have a "product" where the customer can fill out information about their item they want tested/repaired. I need several free-form and dropdown fields. The customer would then buy that service and send in their item. I want to make sure I can do this with custom fields/variants for this service product.

2. Once the item is repaired, there may be additional charges involved. Is there a way to invoice the client for the additional cost above what he paid for the base service?

3. For the "regular" products, in addition to pictures, they may have Product Data Sheets - PDF files that describe the item - that I would like to make available on the Product Description page. Can I do this? Can I make a link to a document in the HTML editor for Description?

Thanks,

Tom

Hi Tom,

1. Yes I recommend using the Product Variants for this.

2. Yes you can use the Smith Billing Manager which is integrated with SmithCart to create an Invoice and email the client. Find out more about the Billing Manager at the following link - http://www.smith-consulting.com/Produ...

3. Yes the Product tabs fully support the use of HTML.

Hope this helps!

Thanks,

Re; Billing Manager, I was wondering if there was a way to do this without buying another module. Can I change the balance due on an order? Failing that, I guess I could create a product where the customer sets his own price and have him buy the extra cost service via that product.

Thanks,

Tom

Hi Tom,

Yes you can change the balance of an order with Smithcart. If you open the Manage Orders screen and select an order you can edit the price of the product for that order.

Another option would be to add a surcharge to the order after has been submitted.

Hope this helps. Please let me know if you have anymore questions. Thanks!
