I am trying to understand how the gift card feature works. This is my scenario. I want to set up many gift card in the store for different manufacturers/vendors. So I created a product gift card 1 and checked gift card product in the product setting. In the buy now module settings, I enabled gift cards/gift certificates and checked auto assign serial numbers. So my thought is that a customers adds a gift card (which is a product) to the cart and checks out  it asks for a recipient email address and message and then when payment is successful, the recipient would get an email with a gift card code that can be used to buy products in the store that are marked gift card products.

What I don't understand is where the add gift card comes in in the store admin or how its connected to the sale of the gift card product in the store.  Is the idea that someone orders a gift card and the store admin gets the order and then has to go into store admin to actually create the gift card, assign it to the product and send the notification to the recipient? I can't imagine having to go in and manually add a gift card in the store admin every time a gift card is ordered in the store plus having to know the senders dnn login info. Is this how it's designed  or am I misunderstanding?

How does the e-card email template tie into this? Whats the difference between a gift card and gift certificate.

Sorry for the questions but the documentation is really lacking with respect to how this is all supposed to work.

Anyone have experience with this?

Thanks for the help!

Hi Carl,

Sorry for the late response, this one must have slipped by us.

For a user to purchase a Gift Card, Gift Cards need to be enabled in the Cart Settings and the "Gift Card PRoduct" flag must be enabled in the PRoduct Setup screen.

Once the above settings are configured all you need to do is add the Gift Card Product to the Cart and checkout.

After the Gift Card product is purchased, the Gift Card # and info can be managed by navigating to the Store Admin Menu > Gift Cards > Edit.

Hope this helps!

Thanks Kevin.

When I enabled a product for gift card, the recipient name, email and comment fields show up on the product detail page and they show up in the Gift Card Admin screen. Are there tokens to add this info to the email? I also noticed that the same fields showed up on the confirmation page.

I want to sell a gift certificate online for a specific manufacturer. When a gift certificate is purchased I want the customer to get an email with the gift certificate in it with the serial number that they can print out and bring with them to the store. The store ie manufacturer should also get that email so they can reconcile the use of the certificate.

So my question is . how do I set up the emails. do I use the ecard template and if so what are the tokens for the recipient info and serial number etc. I assume the manufacturer would get the store email but I need to include the gift certificate serial number in it too.

Thanks for the help... determined to use this feature :)

Carl

Hi Carl,

Email tokens for the Gift Card Number and Comments are not currently supported; however, it is in our developers queue of things to look into.

In the meantime, currently the best way to manage your Gift Cards is from the Store Admin Menu > Gift Cards screen.

To provide your users with the Gift Card Number via email, you may be able to utilize the Custom Fields available in the Manage Order Details screen to input the data then send the order email.

Hope this helps!
