I want to be able to add a fixed handling charge but I don't want it showing up in the Shipping & Handling field before the customer fills out their Ship To address. It should just be added to the shipping rate returned from UPS, FedEx, ... and shown as one lump sum in Shipping & Handling once the "Calculate Shipping" button is selected.

Hi David,

You can enable the "Combine Shipping and Handling" feature found in the Handling Setup section of the Cart Settings. When checked it allows you to set a handling charge to be combined with the Shipping Rate.

Hi Kevin,

I know that and that is how I have it configured. Even with this set there is still an issue. If I set the handling charge to $2.00 then a customer will see $2.00 in the Shipping and Handling line before he/she enters there shipping address. Then when the Calculate Shipping button is clicked it is combined with the shipping amount.

The $2.00 should not show up separately and before the Calculate Shipping button is clicked. The way it is now the customer can easily see the markup in handling charge. The $2.00 should only be added to the actual shipping rate that is returned and displayed as one lump sum!

DNN version 05.06.06 and SmithCart version 4.8.4. Is this fixed in the latest versions?

Hi David,

The ability to apply a Handling Fee while either the "Hide Handling" or "Combine Shigging and Handling" features are enabled and using a Shipping Calculator without displaying the Handling Charge before the Shipping Rate is calculated, is not currently supported.

As a possible alternative solution, you may be able to utilize the Shipping Surcharge Percent/Amount feature, found in the Payment Method Setup screen, which applies to all shipping configurations that use custom ship methods or shipping zones. Useful for managing variable ship costs like tariffs, COD, fuel surcharges, etc that several carriers (such as FedEx) charge and that changes every month.

Why is this marked as resolved?

I use the shipping calculator so your workaround won't work. I can't imagine this would be that big of an issue to fix. Just skip showing the handling fee until it is combined with the actual shipping charges!

Please keep this open until it is resolved!

Hi David,

The behavior you are requesting is not an issue with the module, it is a feature which is not currently supported. If you apply a Handling Charge it will not be charged if its configured to be hidden. If  "Combine Shipping and Handling" is enabled, the Handling Charge will be added to the Shipping & Handling line prior to calculating the Shipping Rate.

The Cart also suports the ability to configure a surcharge for each Payment Method but again, this field will be shown on the Confirmation and Confirm Status pages.

If you would like to be provided with a fixed quote to provide the ability to apply the Handling Charge after the Shipping Rate has been calculated with the Shipping Calculator, please do one of the following:
