The install script for v2.97 has been fixed and the updated version is available on the downloads page.

I received the same error when installed after the first install failed. The problem is that even though the first install failed dnn still created all the table changes for 2.97. Then when you try to install again it trys to run the same alter tables that were already executed. You will need to roll back to 2.96 then install 2.97.

Yes most servers are automatically backed up nightly by your hosting company you can request a restore from last nights backup and that should put you back to version 2.96. Another solution for you is to delete the 4 fields and one table that are created in the 2.97 sqlprovider file. Delete the table "Smith_OrderDiscounts" and remove the following fields added in the 2.97 install:
