I have some products that need to be setup with several extra dropdowns, radio buttons and text boxes to be filled out by the customer.

Do I have to use variants for every custom field wanting to be added?  Or is there a better way to go about this since the fields I'm needing really aren't variants to the product, but simply additional input needed from the customer?

Any custom product fields that you need to add that require customer input should be added as product variants. If you need to add custom product fields that DO NOT require customer input can be added using "custom fields" in the product setup screen.

Hi Mike,

If the additional input you need to collect from your customers is not specific to the product you can also use the Step 1 custom fields which can be setup in your Cart Settings.

Hope this helps!

My only issue using variants is that the page updates each time you fill in a text box, select dropdown, etc. and I will have a few products that require roughly 10-15 input items from the customer.  Having the page update each time becomes very annoying user experience.

Is there any other workaround you guys can think of?

Thanks

Hi Mike,

Can you confirm which version of the Cart and DNN you are currently running?

Thanks!

Hi Mike,

I checked with programming on this and feedback is that currently the Variants require a partial post back to check the database as each variant may have price adjustments or trigger additional hidden conditional variants.

You may be able to use custom client side programming to avoid the postback or if you have budget in your project we are available to program and alternative to the postback.
