I read in the manual that I should be able to pass the categoryid using the syntax:

http://www.mysite.com/ShoppingCart/Default.aspx?categoryid=1

Doing this returns no results in the product listing. Do I need to turn on a setting in order for this this to work?

Problem solved. This version of the shopping cart is different in how categories are selected. Missed setting the categories for all products.
