I created this spreadsheet and none of the images are showing up even though they are in the folder.

OK, if I might make a suggestion, I am having a hard time getting my product to add/update well, and it is somewhat frustrating that the "success" message tells me nothing. Right now, after I do an import, all it says is:

"Products Imported Sucessfully"

In reality, I know that it didn't import them correctly...

Two things would be nice:

1. The ability to match fields (think about doing an import in Excel) -- this would make the column order insignificant and upgrades would not be a bugger is the columns change.

2. More detail about what was imported, sorta like:

322 Products Imported Sucessfully

172 Products Were Updated

150 New Products Were Added

8 New Categories were Created

17 New Sub Categories were Created

5 Products were not added (see error log here)

This way we know what was actually done...

Just a thought for a future upgrade...

Thanks

Tim

Sorry, two more questions...

  1. Are there prohibited characters in any of the fields (like quotation marks -- my client has categories that include inch measurements eg - 6" Barrel)
  2. Are any of the columns format specific -- I noticed that some in your original sample were formatted "Number" or "Currency" -- just curious if I need to keep those designations...

Thanks

Tim

PS -- did you mean to overwrite your extensive furniture sample data with my three minimal rows of gun barrel data in the attached sample?

OK, doing some trials, it looks like the quotation marks are killing my import (they seem to be shifting a column). Can I put in a " instead?

Yes single quotes, double quotes, and percent signs are reserved fields in SQLServer so it would be best to remove those characters before importing your products.

So, in an ideal world, clients won't use punctuation, right?

My client sells things of specific length, and that defines many of his categories. Example:

Commander - 4.25"

After trolling around a bit for info, I did a bit of trial and error and came up with a solution to keep the quoation mark. To do that, in the excel import sheet, I preceded the name of the subcategory with a single quote and it worked (It did not work when I tried to close that quote at the end):

'Commander - 4.25"

Also, it seems that the quotation marks i have in the description comes through OK.

Hope this helps some other poor soul trying to get their quotation marks to upload!

Tim

You're right you should be able to have specials characters like the single and double quotes in the import data. I added this to the dev list and will postback when we have an eta. Thanks for reporting the issue!

Hi

I am testing import functionality because we have a very large number of products to import.

I am using the latest version of the module and I am trying the sample xls file on this thread that includes variants.

The import fails with this error:

"product import failed width"

So, you example does not work and I am stuck.

Please help.

thanks

Gus

Hi Angus,

Yes, we do have an updated import spreadsheet, you must have just missed the new Sample product import spreadsheet for Cart versions 4.30+.

Thank you very much for sharing this tip! All my product descriptions contain quotes, this has saved me a lot of time.

It seems the "Summary" field, which is empty in my case, copies the first character of the following field ("Description").

Shoulda stayed with CSV.
