I don't know if this is a FedEx issue or a cart settings issue, but the shipping estimates for FedEx all of a sudden skyrocketed to about four times the correct value on the checkout page.  When I go to the FedEx website and enter the same address information I get the correct shipping cost, but when SmithCart does it the cost is way too high.  This problem only recently started happening and I did not change any cart settings that I know of to cause it.  Anyone ever seen this before?

Hi Kyle,

When using the FedEx shipping calculator the Cart receives shipping rates directly from FedEx so the rates shouldn't change unless something in the Cart has changed.

Which version of the Cart and DNN are you currently running?

What is the weight of the Product you are calculating shipping for in the Cart?

What is the From and To address you are using for shipping?

Thanks!

I'm running DNN 7.2.1 with SmithCart 6.0.0.

Here's an example address which causes a very high shipping estimate in the Cart but not on the FedEx website:

name: John Doe
Addess: Ive Pevaleka 8
City: Koprivnica
Zip: 48000
Country: Croatia

SmithCart will display a shipping cost of $461, whereas getting the estimate from the FedEx website will give me $141

The weight of the product is .5 lbs, using FedEx International Priority with FedEx envelope as the package type.

From address is: Passfire Labs Inc., 14406 Middlefield Ln., Odessa FL 33556

Hi Kyle,

I am getting the same shipping rate returned as you are. If this change was all of a sudden it's quite possible that RedEx has made a change to their Shipping Rate Calculator API. I don't see anything listed on their website regarding changes but I may be looking in the wrong place. Can you confirm with FedEx support if any changes or updates have been made to their API and if so please send the latest Developer's API Guide to support@smith-consulting.com and our programmers will review the changes.

Thanks!

I am getting these grossly high shipping estimates on pretty much every international order now, which causes a lot of hassle since I then have to create coupons for each customer to offset the incorrect shipping quotes. As your end-user customer, I do not feel it is my responsibility to waste time on the phone with FedEx trying to figure out why their API is not working. That is your developers job to make sure the software is current with any third party API changes, or to verify if any such changes have occurred.

Hi Kyle,

If FedEx has made any changes we have not been notified, however programming is currently researching this. When a Shipping Carrier changes their API and software has been integrated to communicate with the API, it's not considered very good practice to go without notifying the software companies, which in turn "breaks" their integration. Unfortunately this isn't always the case as there are scenarios where the change goes unnoticed unless reported, i.e. the difficulties you are having.

I have this in our developer's queue of things to look into however it would expedite the process if you could confirm with FedEx is any changes have been made.

Thanks!

Any update on this? It's getting to the point where I'm going to have to start doing free shipping just because the outrageous shipping quotes are scaring away customers.

Just now I was doing a test order and got double sets of buttons on the checkout page, then the shipping calculation button sent me back to the product page and dumped all the address info I had entered into the form. The same thing was happening to my customer, which is why I was investigating it.

Hi Kyle,

Can you confirm which version of the Cart you are currently using? I just tested for this issue on cart 6.72 and used From and To address above with the same Product Weight and the rates returned were $131.27 for FedEx International Economy and $191.60 for FedEx International Priority. See the following screenshot.

I haven't seen any updates regarding rate calculation however we did add FedEx Freight Shipping in the release of 6.55 so it's possible the rate calculation was also fixed with the update. I recommend testing with the latest release of the Cart.

Let me know if you have any questions.

I'm on version 6.0.0.  Can an update be installed over top an existing version without effecting any of the current cart settings?

Now I see that the upgrade period is a mere three months before having to pay again, with zero discount after six months.  You know a year is pretty standard for the free upgrade period on most software these days right?  Why should a customer have to buy the software all over again just to get a bug fix?  No upgrade discount at all after six months?  This is very disappointing, I wish I had read that policy before committing to this product.
